Inconel alloy 601/UNS N06601/W.Nr. 2.4851 ASTM B166 bar /sheet/ tube
Overview
Inconel alloy 601 (UNSN06601/W.Nr. 2.4851) is a nickel-chromium alloy, that is highly resistant to oxidation through 2200°F. It is a general-purpose engineering material for applications that require resistance to heat and corrosion. An outstanding characteristic of INCONEL alloy 601 is its resistance to high temperature oxidation. Inconel 601 alloy develops a tightly adherent oxide scale which resists spalling even under severe thermal cycling.
The 601 alloy also has good resistance to aqueous corrosion, has high mechanical strength, and is readily formed, machined and welded.
What is more, the 601 alloy has good high temperature strength, and retains its ductility after long service exposure.
The properties of INCONEL alloy 601 make it a material of broad utility in such fields as thermal processing, chemical processing, pollution control, aerospace, and power generation.

Mechanical properties
INCONEL alloy 601 has good mechanical strength.
The optimum condition for alloy 601 depends on the type of application and the service temperature involved. In general, the solution-treated condition is used for rupture-limited applications (temperatures of about 1000°F (540°C) and higher). The annealed condition is normally used for tensile-limited applications (temperatures below about 1000°F
(540°C)).

Corrosion Resistance
The high nickel and chromium composition of Alloy 601 not only help to give it superior high temperature performance but also bive the alloy excellent resistance to many wet corrosive environments. In these types of applications, the performance of Alloy 601 is similar to that of Alloy 600. Alloy 601 has excellent resistance to nitric acid, low concentrations of phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide solutions and sea water. The alloy is not resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid environments. Because of the alloys high nickel content, it is extremely resistant to chloride-ion stress-corrosion crackin in most environments
